Thinking about healthy aging is some times not of top importance during your working life. As a young man or woman you tend to find where the money is at; then later you might live to regret that decision.
Its true becoming a senior and aging doesn't high on your list when you are hungry for money and success. However you may find this has left it own undesireable effects on your future health. With young families and the desire to provide for them many people need to take work which might not be ideal just to support the family. But this could come back to haunt you in your later years.
Its all too common that the working environment of many is far from healthy. But they have little choice if they are to provide for their families. Many have to work in unhealthy conditions which are filled with chemicals, dust and toxic fumes.
If we were to take a worker in a wood shop for example. They are exposed to a number of hazards including the exposure to sawdust, glues and adhesives which produce poisonous fumes and gases. Long term exposure to these can lead to serious breathing related illness and diseases such as lung cancer.
More obviously unhealthy is a coal mine. Coal miners face daily risk to their health and a reduced life expectancy. Dust from coal and the damp conditions of a coal mine can lead to very serious lung problems such as pneumoconiosis or black lung disease. Many men who work down mines have suffered the effects of working down the mine and few make it to a very old age.
Another significant employer accross several States is the saw milling industry. This is job which has a history of ill health associated with it's former workers. Which can hardly be huge suprise when you consider these workers often operate in sub zero temperatures. Also what cannot be ignored is the risk of accidents resulting in injuries which may leave their victims crippled or even worse.
Those working in the fishing industry are exposed almost daily to extreme danger and serious risk to their health. Inspite of their maturing years older fisherman still take to their boats and work in dangerous unhospitable conditions to make a living. Fisherman face daily danger in their work and are also prone to injuries such as back injuries. One bonus is they get plenty of fresh eat and tend to eat well.
Truckers are another group of workers where they are exposed to frequent dangers which are detrimental to their health.Truckers will on many occasions drive for miles and miles with little sleep often endangering their own live and others.
Older trucker drivers many of whom are 60+ are exposing themselves to even greater risk to their health and wellbeing. Their punishing lifestyle can take its toll on an rapidly aging body. Their health can suffer also because of their unhealthy diet and often prolonged lack of sleep.
As age decends on us all we need to give more thought to what we are doing to our bodies at work. Often works canteens and food areas provide unhealthy food which just increases the health risks further to an aging worker.
When we push ourselves in our youthful years to earn more ignoring the health risks for the future we do our body and mind no favors in the long term. Our bodies need a healthy environment to work in, enough sleep to be ready for the next day and good diet to maintain our health. By paying attention to these areas sooner rather than later in life we stand a greater chance of healthy aging.
Examine what your work place is doing to your health and consider how that might create issues with your health in the future. By paying attention to this now you can increase the quality of your life through healthy aging.
