Giving Up on Liberal Friends?

I have several good friends who are political liberals and big Obama-Biden supporters. Discussing politics with them is becoming increasingly rancorous and difficult. These are close, personal and in some instances, lifelong friends who are politically smart, educated, cultured and (unlike myself) well-traveled. I am to the point of giving real consideration to dropping them as friends as I really cannot respect them in terms of their incapacity to see the stark differences between Obama and McCain. Has anyone else encountered this problem in this election year and if so, are you just keeping quite or giving up old friendships?
